Press Release

BCC is expanding its MigrationEngine migration platform to include openDesk as a new target system. The solution automatically transfers even encrypted data without breaking the encryption chain.

Eschborn, September 15, 2026. With its MigrationEngine migration platform, BCC will now support openDesk as a target system. This enables organizations to automatically transfer emails, calendars, contacts, and tasks from HCL Domino and Microsoft Exchange to a sovereign work environment—including encrypted content. The extension will be available in conjunction with the Smart Country Convention, taking place October 13–15, 2026, in Berlin.

However, building sovereign IT infrastructures does not start from scratch. Government agencies, public institutions, and companies have accumulated business-critical communication and collaboration data over the course of years or decades. Anyone wishing to switch to a sovereign platform like openDesk must therefore not only introduce a new work environment but also migrate their existing data to it securely, completely, and in a traceable manner.

BCC, a German software manufacturer with many years of expertise in migrating complex collaboration environments, has expanded MigrationEngine to include openDesk for this purpose.

openDesk is the open-source work environment for public administration provided by the Center for Digital Sovereignty in Public Administration (ZenDiS).

Migrate securely. Make confident decisions.

Choosing an open and flexible communication platform is only one part of the transformation process. Another challenge lies in the existing data: Emails and attachments, calendars and recurring events, contacts, tasks, and custom folder structures must be extracted from existing systems and reliably transferred to the new environment.

BCC MigrationEngine addresses precisely this portability: The solution automates the transfer between source and target systems and reduces manual migration steps, custom scripting, and the effort required for post-processing.

For us, digital sovereignty means, above all, freedom of choice. Organizations should be able to select their collaboration platform based on their own requirements, and not on whether and how they can transfer their existing data to it. This is especially true for sensitive and encrypted information. That’s why we are consistently expanding MigrationEngine to support additional target platforms such as openDesk.”- says Olaf Boerner, CEO BCC Group.

openDesk Becomes the New Target System for BCC MigrationEngine

BCC has decades of experience migrating complex systems. Using MigrationEngine, several hundred thousand mailboxes have already been migrated to Microsoft Exchange, Microsoft 365, and Google Workspace.

With openDesk, a sovereign alternative to the major commercial cloud platforms is now available for the first time. Organizations can thus choose their target system based on their requirements for the cloud, compliance, and sovereignty-rather than on whether their existing data will make it there.

End-to-end encryption - even during migration

Encrypted content poses a particular challenge when migrating business-critical data. BCC MigrationEngine supports the migration of such data without breaking the encryption chain during the migration process. This allows even highly sensitive information to be included in the automated migration without compromising data protection during the transfer.

Information security is not merely a technical issue. BCC is ISO/IEC 27001 certified and combines the MigrationEngine’s technological security mechanisms with established and verifiable security processes.

BCC Presents openDesk Migration at the Smart Country Convention

Coinciding with the Smart Country Convention (October 13–15, 2026, in Berlin), BCC announces support for openDesk as a new target system for the MigrationEngine. Initially, the solution supports direct migration from HCL Domino and Microsoft Exchange to openDesk.

Government agencies, public institutions, and companies that are evaluating openDesk, preparing for a migration, or have already chosen the platform can work with BCC to analyze their existing environment and perform a test migration using real data.
