How does BCC Affirmatic work?

Affirmatic can be provided as a SaaS application (hosted and managed by BCC) or it can be deployed as an Azure application into an Azure subscription. The individual components (micro services) can be scaled as required based on the size of the Microsoft 365 environment. 

Where do I install the program?

We can provide an evaluation version as a Windows virtual machine image. A production version can be run within an Azure private cloud, or we can operate it for you as a SaaS application (hosted within the BCC Affirmatic Azure tenant). 

Do I need a Windows server to run BCC Affirmatic?

Our initial release is only available on Windows, but we are actively working on a Linux implementation. 

Is BCC Affirmatic available for HCL Domino?

Affirmatic is also available as a native HCL Domino Application allowing for the management and governance of HCL Domino objects as well as Active Directory objects. 

Is BCC Affirmatic a cloud-based solution, and what are the system requirements for implementation?

Yes. Affirmatic is a cloud-based solution (Azure), and it requires minimal on-premises infrastructure. To implement Affirmatic, you will need compatible web browsers and internet connectivity. Our technical team will guide you through the setup process and any specific requirements based on your organization's needs. 

Does BCC Affirmatic support single sign-on (SSO) and multi-factor authentication (MFA)?

How does BCC Affirmatic handle updates and new features from Microsoft 365 and Teams?

Affirmatic is designed to stay up to date with the latest features and updates from Microsoft 365 and Teams. Our development team actively monitors changes in these platforms and ensures compatibility and seamless integration with new enhancements.

How to upgrade to the latest version?

Latest versions of BCC Affirmatic are made available to Licensed and Supported customers via a download site. Customers in Support can install the latest version themselves.

BCC MigrationEngine for Mail

Fast and secure e-mail migration from HCL Domino to Microsoft Exchange, and vice versa, that is fully GDPR-compliant and requires no human access to the mail on either source or destination.

Why do I need this product?

BCC MigrationEngine for Mail is needed if you are transitioning your Mail and/or calendar system to or from HCL Domino and to or from Microsoft Exchange or Microsoft 365.

Is there a way to see if BCC MigrationEngine for Mail is the right product for my migration project?

How does Exchange Migration work?

BCC MigrationEngine for Mail can migrate to or from Exchange (including Exchange Online as part of Microsoft 365). It runs on the HCL Domino server and reads the source mailbox and immediately writes that same data to the target mailbox. During this process, it does not store any data in transition. Also, there is no middleware or migration farms of clients to conduct the migration.

Can you use this tool to migrate from Office 365/Microsoft 365?

Yes. It can be used to migrate from Office 365/Microsoft 365.

Are migrations from/to Google Workspace, Zimbra and other non-Exchange platforms supported?

No. At this time, the only supported platforms are: HCL Domino Microsoft Exchange (including Microsoft 365).

Are migrations from to hosted Exchange environments supported?

Yes. If the EWS Exchange protocol is available, any implementation of Exchange can be supported.

Will these tools migrate encrypted emails?

Yes. BCC MigrationEngine for Mail migrates encrypted mails.

Are archive mailboxes (In-Place Archives) supported?

Yes. Archive mailboxes are supported.

Can you migrate items between servers with different language versions?

Yes. Although there is no translation during the migration, each server can be operating under different languages. Mail Migration Engine simply reads the data from the Source mailbox and writes it to the Target mailbox.

Do I have to pay to get support?

What type of data can be migrated?

BCC MigrationEngine for Mail migrates:

  • e-Mails Calendar entries (including repeating appointments).
  • Tasks.
  • Contacts.
  • Encrypted Email can also be decrypted and either re-encrypted in S/Mime or marked as "Confidential" in Exchange.

Where do I install the program?

BCC MigrationEngine for Mail is installed on a Domino Server. Depending on the number of mailboxes to be migrated, it could be installed on the Domino Mail Server, but is often a dedicated a separate Migration Server.

How long does the migration process take? Are there any size or speed limits?

The duration of a migration project depends on several parameters. Generally, fewer user mailboxes indicate a quicker migration, but there are no upper size limits. To receive a detailed performance, cost, and time schedule, please contact us here.

How is a direct migration from Exchange 2010 to 2019 possible?

Both the Source and Target mailboxes can be in the Exchange platform. This allows for Exchange to Exchange or Exchange to Microsoft to be supported. 

How do I prepare my environment for the migration?

We recommend speaking to a BCC Consultant to check that both your target and source are ready to receive the migration data. If you are using Microsoft 365, we will share with you some configuration changes that are necessary to release Microsoft throttling that is in place to control their systems, but limits migration.

Does the program support multi-factor authentication when migrating from Office 365/Microsoft 365?

Yes. Your users can use MFA. However, we authenticate Microsoft 365 using OAuth program level authentication, where multifactor authentication is not enabled.

Can I auto-match source and target mailboxes?

We provide a CSV file that we ask you to populate with the Source and Target mailbox names. This is a manual process. 

How does the program create mailboxes on the target server?

If mailbox creation is required on the target server, we can either offer this as a professional services engagement, or you can use our partner product BCC Affirmatic.

Can I migrate public folders? How does this work?

Yes. You can migrate a Public Folder from Exchange. It will migrate to a MailIn database on HCL Domino.

Can I migrate public folders in the same Active Directory Forest?

Currently, public folders are only supported in the Exchange to Domino migration. Any number of public folders can be migrated. Which Active Directory Forest these are in has no interest to the migration. They simply need to be accessible to the Exchange environment by EWS.

Does the program migrate free/busy statuses?

BCC MigrationEngine for Mail synchronizes Mail and Calendar. If as part of the migration you need to look up Free/Busy from Domino or from Exchange, you need our product BCC Coexistence Gateway - Free Busy.

Does the program offer a two-way sync between source and target servers?

Yes. BCC MigrationEngine for Mail enables you to synchronize and keep synchronizing mail and calendar data using a delta sync.

Does the program delete anything from the source server?

No. By default, during the migration nothing is deleted. However, there are configuration options that allow you to control this if deletion is required.

Can source mailboxes still be used after they have been migrated?

Yes. Source mailboxes can be used after an initial migration has been conducted. A future delta sync before cutover will catch up with any new email/changes that have occurred since the first migration took place.

Help! Target server mailboxes addresses are not resolving and are not listed!

As part of the Domino to Exchange migration, we resolve Domino email addresses to SMTP addresses using the Domino server name & address book. Various configuration options are available to resolve from different name & address books as required. 

Is it possible to migrate mailboxes within the same domain using your program?

Yes. You can migrate from xyz.com on Domino to xyz.com on Exchange.

Can I migrate from GoDaddy?

Yes. Since GoDaddy is just a reseller of Office 365, we can migrate to/from GoDaddy Office 365.

What type of data can be archived?

ActiveArchive converts any Notes Mail databases and Domino applications into browser-compatible format with standardized views.

What are the archive options?

You can archive to: 

  • PDF/A files with optional password protection to mirror former Notes encryption. 
  • HTML/XML website.
  • SharePoint site.
  • SQL databases.
  • OneDrive for personal applications.

Does BCC ActiveArchive offer an analysis of existing HCL Notes applications?

Before archiving, we can create a detailed analysis of all existing Domino data and applications with our tool BCC Domino Analyzer.

How long does the archiving process take? Are there any size or speed limits?

This cannot be answered without further information. The duration of the archiving process depends on the amount of data to be processed and the number of documents in the database. Other than the CPU performance of the Domino Server, there are no potential speed restraints. Please contact us here for a detailed analysis of your existing Domino data and applications.

Do I still need a Domino server after archiving?

No. You can access your archived HCL Notes data without Notes clients or Domino servers. 

Do I need an ongoing license subscription after archiving?

No. You do not need an ongoing license subscription for HCL or others.

What is the BCC ActiveArchive requirements?

  • Windows Server.
  • Domino Server up to version 12.0.2.
  • Mail Applications (Databases) with ODS of at least 51 and running on version Domino 8.5.1 or higher. 
  • Any version of Domino Applications (other than mail) can be archived with any ODS value - a customizing step may be needed to get the best Archive.
  • Space on the target server to host the exported files (usually about the same space again as the target files).

How do I prepare my environment for the migration?

BCC ActiveArchive needs a Domino Server on which to run. In certain circumstances, this can be the production server which hosts the databases to be archived. No pre-requisites are necessary, but it might be worth conducting a compact on the source database, as well as checking that the database is properly indexed, and that the ACL is current and correctly set. 

Does BCC ActiveArchive support integration with third-party applications?
